Schools to remain closed tomorrow in these Odisha districts amid heavy rainfall alert

Schools in Ganjam and Malkangiri districts of Odisha will remain closed tomorrow due to heavy rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The respective district administrations have issued orders following the IMD's red alert.

Schools in the districts of Ganjam and Malkangiri will remain closed tomorrow. The decision has been taken by the respective district administrations in view of the heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department.

"All schools and Anganwadi Centres will be closed tomorrow in Malkangiri District considering Heavy rains and Red warning by IMD," informed the Collector & DM of Malkangiri in apost on X. 

In an office order, the Collector and District Magistrate of Ganjam, Chhatrapur said "Keeping in view the prediction issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar, wherein Ganjam District is put in the category of scattered Heavy to Very Heavy with Isolated Extremely Heavy Rainfall on 10.09.2024, all schools and all Anganwadi centres of this districts shall be closed on 10.09.2024 to avoid any untoward incident."

The IMD has issued a red alert citing "Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) at a few places with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) very likely in the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh,
Khurda, Puri, Bolangir, Boudh."
