Schools in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to remain closed on June 20

The Odisha government has announced the closure of all government, government-aided, and private schools within the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Municipal Corporation limits on Friday (June 20, 2025). The decision comes as the state prepares to celebrate the completion of one year of the current government, during which PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit.

According to a notification issued by the Department of School and Mass Education, the closure is a precautionary measure due to the expected large public gathering in Bhubaneswar, where PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend a state-level function.

"Considering the anticipated heavy traffic congestion and logistical challenges associated with such a massive public event, the government has decided to declare a holiday for all schools under the Department of School and Mass Education in the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Municipal Corporation areas," stated a letter from the Department of School and Mass Education.
