The students of Brahmapura Government School in Patnagarh of Bolangir district along with their parents on Wednesday sat on a dharna demanding the completion of construction work of the classrooms.

The protesting students blocked the road following which vehicles from both sides remained stranded.

According to the sources, the school has only three classrooms for 108 students from Class 1 to 8. Due to lack of adequate classrooms, students face difficulty in attending their classes.

Three years ago, the classrooms were reportedly demolished for beautification work. However, the administration did not build new classrooms causing inconvenience to students.

The agitating students and their parents demanded immediate completion of the classrooms.

After learning about the protest, Bolangir MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, reached the spot and had a discussion with the students and assured them that the construction of the classroom would be completed at the earliest.

“Our school building was demolished and now we are studying under the open skies. We urge the administration to complete the construction of our classroom,” said a student of the school.

“It has been two years since the students are facing problems due to the lack of classrooms. I have discussed the issue with the sub-collector and requested him to complete the construction of the classroom as soon as possible,” said Singh Deo.
