The students of a school in Mayurbhanj district with rice on their mid-day meal plates trudged 1.5 kilometers to meet the block development officer (BDO) on Monday.

According to reports, the students of Binod Ray Upper Primary School at Rasgovindpur village were being given mid-day meals today. However, the school ran out of curry and when the students asked for more, they were denied.

Protesting this, around 15 students of Class VI and VII carried the plates with only rice and marched straight towards the BDO office.
Upon reaching the BDO office, the aggrieved students staged a demonstration in front of the office, demanding a solution to their 'day-to-day' problem.

They called off their demonstration only when their parents and the block staff intervened and managed to pacify them.

When contacted, Rasgovindpur BDO, Lalatendu Singh said over phone, “The block education officer (BEO) and child development project officer (CDPO) will probe into the students’ allegation. They will submit their report to the district social welfare officer (DSWO) and the district education officer (DEO). They (students) complained about a specific group for irregularities. Action will be taken against whosoever is found responsible in the report.”
