School Holidays Declared in Jharsuguda District

Schools in Jharsuguda, Odisha, will close till 25th April due to a heat wave. The District Collector announced measures including no outdoor work from 10AM-4PM.

Due to the ongoing heat wave, schools will remain closed from tomorrow until 25th April in the Jharsuguda district of Odisha. This decision regarding the school holidays has been taken by the District Collector of Jharsuguda.

Confirming the decision, Jharsuguda Collector said, “In Jharsuguda district, including the residential schools, will remain closed till Friday. We have also asked Anganwadi children not to come to the centres, and the ration will be sent to their homes. Everyone has been put on high alert. Heat stroke rooms in all PHCs are functional. We have asked the discoms to ensure there are no power cuts. A direction has been given to all industries to not allow any outdoor works between 10AM and 4PM. Even workers engaged indoors have to be provided water break after 1 hour, and instructions have been given to create awareness among the workers regarding the importance of hydration. Further course of action will be decided keeping in mind the heat situation.”

“In view of the prevailing heat wave situation in the district, all Schools having Classes Sishu Vatika to XII under Jharsuguda district will remain closed from 23.04.2025 to 25.04.2025. This order is issued to avoid students from heat wave,” a letter from the Jharsuguda distirct administration read.

Jharsuguda Boils at 46.2°C, Breaks 15-Year Record

Today, the town of Jharsuguda witnessed an extreme rise in temperature, with the mercury soaring to 46.2°C. This marks the first time this year that any place in Odisha has crossed the 46 degrees Celsius mark.

The scorching heat shattered a 15-year-old record for April in Jharsuguda. Previously, on April 20, 2010, the highest recorded temperature in Jharsuguda was 46.1°C.
