SCB Medical College and Hospital
In a first, the Haematology department of Srirama Chandra Bhanja (SCB) Medical College and Hospital will now offer a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling on Sunday.
After inaugurating the 14th annual conference of Odisha Haematology Congress, Mahaling said, “I would like to thank Professor Dr Manas Ranjan Sahoo, vice chancellor of Odisha University of Health Sciences, for recognising the Department of Clinical Haematology of SCB Medical College and Hospital as a centre of excellence and launching the PhD programme.”
“Besides, I would like to thank Professor Jena who has successfully transplanted 106 bone marrows free of cost,” Mahaling added.
Meanwhile, health experts have welcomed the launch of PhD programme the premier health institute.
“There was no PhD course in the medical curriculum. Considering the efficiency of the Department, where 160 bone marrow transplantations have been performed, the vice chancellor of Odisha University of Health Sciences has been accorded centre of excellence status and allowed to launch PhD programme. This is a very big achievement,” said Dr Rabindra Jena, Head of the Department (HoD), Clinical Haematology, SCB Medical College and Hospital.
