Gurundia Police Station, Sundargarh, Odisha
A Sanskrit teacher in Odisha’s Sundargarh district has been accused of misconduct by seven girl students, prompting a police probe. The in-charge headmistress of the school lodged a complaint at the Gurundia police station after the allegations surfaced.
The incident was reported from a school in the Gurundia block. Following the complaint, the teacher reportedly applied for leave and went absconding. Police have confirmed that appropriate action will be taken once the school reopens after the holidays.
The incident took place in Gurundia block on August 16. The school’s internal committee convened a meeting on the matter but failed to reach a suitable solution. This prompted the headmistress to file a formal complaint with Gurundia police. Police reports state that the complaint carried the statements of the seven girl students. However, progress in the case has been delayed as senior police officials are unavailable due to consecutive holidays for Ganesh Puja and Nuakhai.
TP Nayak, Investigating Officer of Gurundia police station, said, “The sub-inspector will record the statement. Following this, the 164 order would be issued by the Magistrate. After receiving the order, the statement would be recorded in Bonai. After all this is completed, further actions will be taken.”
With all complainants being minors, police said further action will be taken only after consultations with senior officers. Meanwhile, the accused teacher fled after learning about the complaint, sending a leave application through another person. Police confirmed that the investigation is underway.
An official statement from the headmistress regarding the matter could not be obtained.
