The Sambalpur police have enforced new guidelines from Tuesday to curb the crime rates and maintain law and order in the district. 

As per the new guideline, strict enforcement will be carried out on the use of loud speaker in Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) and periphery areas and no loud speaker will be allowed to play between 10 pm and 6 am.

‘Police Mitra’ has been formed to keep a watch on anti-social activities in flagged dark zone areas. Besides, a WhatsApp number (8018250001) has been launched by the police for the people to report any suspicious activity in their locality.

Strict traffic enforcement will be done from Kacheri square to Adarsh Marg as it has been marked as ‘Zero Tolerance Zone’. Hefty fine will be slapped if anybody found driving in the zero tolerance zones with loud speakers. 

To check the riding of vehicles by minors, the Sambalpur police has decided to take strict action against minors and school children if they are caught driving vehicles. Besides, action will also be taken against their parents. 

The official guideline also mentioned that the market areas inside town shall be closed by 10.30 pm except medical, railway cinema hall and other emergency services. 

The police will take stringent action against drunk drivers and triple riders. 

The police have also informed to do numbering of autos from 01.01.2024 and the numbering of autos shall be completed by the end of 31.01.2024. No auto shall be allowed to play without Police number from 01.02.2024.  

The police will carry out frequent raids against selling of illicit liquor, corex and other contraband articles. 

The police have also requested the merchant associations of Sambalpur Town to put  one or two CCTV cameras facing towards the main road so that they can take assistance with the same as and when required.
