Sambalpur BJP leader booked for demanding percentage commission, assaulting contractor

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

The contractor alleged that Patel and his aide demanded Rs 8 PC on a Rs 15L contract, threatening and assaulting him when he refused. The matter has escalated with both parties taking legal steps.

Sambalpur District BJP President Girish Patel

The Sambalpur District BJP President landed in controversy after a contractor accused him of demanding a percentage commission (PC). The contractor claimed a threat to his life from the District BJP President and sought the intervention of Sadar Town police.

In his complaint, the contractor Prashant Kumar Dani accused the District BJP President Girish Patel of demanding Rs 8% PC for a Rs 15L contract work. Although they had agreed on 3% PC, Girish and his aide allegedly threatened and demanded 8% PC, the contractor alleged.

When he declined their demands, he was allegedly assaulted and threatened with life. When contacted, Girish rubbished the allegations and called it baseless.

“I had given him a cheque of Rs 75,000. However, he returned the cheque. They demanded more. So, I had to file an FIR,” said the complainant Prashant Kumar Dani.

When contacted, Girish Patel stated, “I admit we have had an altercation. I also agree he has spent money on the projects. But, bringing such allegations with ulterior motives is ridiculous. Now, I have also made up my mind to handle this situation as per law and take legal action.”
“They are trying to tarnish my image,” Patel added.
