A fissure in the Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) Sambalpur district unit came out in the open after the party expelled its District Committee Advisor, Pramod Rath on Friday.
BJD’s Organisational Secretary Pranab Prakash Das expelled Rath for his alleged anti-party activities.
Interestingly, Rath himself had called a press conference to declare his resignation and disassociation from the conch party. However, he was expelled even before he could resign.
Pramod has been known for targeting the State government over the issue of the permanent bench of Orissa High Court in Sambalpur.
Addressing the reporters, Rath said, “The state government has failed to send a report to the Centre despite the latter’s repeated requests. The state government did not even meet the Chief Justice of Orissa to discuss the matter. It clearly shows the government’s intention. They do not want to establish a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in Western Odisha.”
“I have been sidelined in the party since 2019. I believe in truth. And if telling the truth in a democratic setup is a crime, then I will commit such crime thousands of times,” Rath said.
It is pertinent to mention here that a meeting was held at Sambalpur yesterday with some senior BJD leaders to discuss organisational strength in the district.
No comments have been received from the BJD on the expulsion of Rath.
