At a time when the entire focus of the Odisha government seems to be on converting the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack into a world-class facility, incidents of lapses and lack of infrastructure at regular intervals paint a different picture. This time, a photograph of a saline bottle being hung from a wooden stick and being administered to a patient has gone viral on social media.

The picture is said to be from the casualty wing of the SCB Medical College and Hospital. It is alleged that as the patient’s attendant failed to find the requisite saline stand, the wooden stick was used as a stop-gap arrangement.

Recently, back-to-back power outages at several departments for two consecutive days and a lack of water supply at the hospital had created widespread resentment in the state.
