The vibrant Rukuna Rath Yatra, an integral part of the Ashokastami festival commenced in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. The annual event is dedicated to Lord Lingaraj, a significant deity in Odisha's spiritual tapestry.

Key Rituals & Timings

As per the temple sources, following the conclusion of the morning rituals, the rituals for the popular festival will be conducted between 12 pm to 12.30 pm. The 'Pahandi' or ceremonial procession of the deities and ascendance to their decorated chariot will be conducted from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm. Worship of the deities will be performed atop the chariot from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm, preceding the anticipated procession.

The chariot pulling, a highlight for the thousands in attendance, will begin promptly at 3.30 pm. The journey to the Rameshwar temple, a key destination, is projected to conclude by 7.30 pm, with further sacred observances set to follow.

Security Measures In Place

To ensure the safety and seamless flow of the procession, the Commissionerate Police have deployed an extensive security framework. As many as sixteen platoons of police, bolstered by officers in civilian attire, will be deployed during the popular festival.

Two Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), three Additional DCPs, five Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), along with twelve inspectors, 65 sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors will be engaged in the comprehensive security operations.

Traffic Regulation & Crowd Management

To ease traffic congestion, additional traffic police have been assigned to manage vehicular control efficiently. Streets covering a 200 to 300-metre radius in anticipation of the procession have been cleared, and parking has been meticulously coordinated, informed Bhubaneswar DCP.

The vibrant festival not only brings a divine atmosphere but also fosters community spirit and cultural heritage, drawing devotees from far and wide.
