Mayurbhanj, one of Odisha’s most culturally rich and tribal-dominated districts, is set to witness a transformative economic leap following a recent visit by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
In the proceedings, he unveiled development projects worth over Rs 420 crore and pledged industrial investments amounting to Rs 10,000 crore, marking a turning point for the region’s infrastructure, employment, and social progress.
During a major public function at the Bisoi mini stadium, CM Majhi inaugurated 133 projects worth Rs 328 crore and laid foundation stones for 52 projects worth Rs 91 crore.
Key projects include initiatives aimed at enhancing the drinking water supply, piped water schemes, school and health infrastructure, banking facilities, and tribal cultural centres. A new Plus-II college at Bisoi Block Headquarters was also announced, along with a decision to name the local mini stadium after freedom fighter Dharanidhar Naik.
The Chief Minister distributed a range of benefits, including death assistance, marriage incentives for labourers’ daughters, and Rs 10 lakh grants to women self-help groups (SHGs) to promote economic activities.
In a significant policy declaration, Majhi stated that Mayurbhanj will attract industrial investments worth Rs 10,000 crore, aimed at creating substantial employment opportunities for local youth.
With backing from the Central government, this aligns with the broader vision of setting up industries in every district. Areas like Rairangpur, Kusumi, Bijatala, Bahalda, Jamda, and Tiring are expected to see focused growth.
The investments will support the development of transportation, electricity, water infrastructure, and industrial parks, laying the groundwork for a new era of local enterprise and prosperity.
Majhi reiterated his government's commitment to achieving its development goals under the ‘36 for 36’ initiative: 36 flagship programmes designed to be completed by 2036, Odisha’s centenary year, with a focus on inclusive growth across health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and industry.
The sweeping set of announcements indicates a shift towards sustainable rural development with enhanced focus on last-mile delivery of services.
By combining economic investment with social upliftment, the Odisha government is charting a path to ensure that tribal and marginalised communities in Mayurbhanj benefit from the growth wave, making it a model for regional transformation in eastern India.
