Rs 1.59L withdrawn from farmer’s account without his knowledge; FIR lodged in Kendrapara
In a serious case of bank fraud, a whopping amount of Rs 1.59 lakh was allegedly withdrawn from the account of a farmer without his knowledge. The matter came to the fore after the farmer went to withdraw his amount.
The bizarre incident has been reported from Cuttack Central Co-operative Bank in Rajkanika, Kendrapara. Based on a complaint by the farmer, Kendrapara police have lodged a complaint against the bank branch manager and cooperative society secretary.
According to sources, Dharanidhar Nayak of Patuli village had taken a loan amount of Rs 1.59 lakh. The loan amount was credited directly to his account number at the co-operative bank. However, he learnt that the money was already withdrawn from his account.
Nayak approached the branch manager who failed to give a satisfactory answer following which the farmer lodged an FIR in this connection.
In his complaint, Nayak accused the branch manager and co-operative society secretary of duping his money without his knowledge.
“I had taken a loan of Rs 1.59 lakh when Ashish Behera was the society secretary. He passed the loan and so I went to withdraw it. However, they denied that I could not withdraw the whole amount at one time. I was shocked to see that the whole amount was withdrawn without my knowledge. Now, they are threatening me by sending people to sign unwanted documents,” alleged the farmer.
“We have received a complaint. But the document shows that it was his cheque, his signature and he withdrew the amount himself. The matter will be revealed only after an investigation,” informed Sanjib Mohapatra, Branch Manager, Cuttack Central Co-operative Bank.
