A Royal Bengal tiger has died at Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Mayurbhanj district. The carcass of the big cat was found at Duduruchampa. STR field Director informed that the carcass of the Royal Bengal Tiger was found near a nullah at Duduruchampa on February 5, 2024.

It is believed that the age of the Royal Bengal tiger was around 3.5 years. The death came to light after the staff detected the carcass during regular patrolling.

“The body of a male Tiger was found near the nullah of the core area. A team was constituted along NTCA, Joint Task Force and other representatives and post-mortem was conducted on February 6 as per the guidelines,” said Director, Prakash Chand Gogineni.

According to the Director, the samples have been sent for examination to Wildlife Health to ascertain the exact reason behind the death of the Royal Bengal Tiger.

“As there is nothing on the carcass, we are yet to say anything about the Royal Bengal Tiger’s death whether it was due to any disease or any other reason,” the Director added.
