Over 20 passengers of a bus sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling on met with an accident on NH-49 on Bangiriposi ghat in Odisha's Baripada.

As per reports, the driver lost control over the steering and the bus rammed into a rock on Bangiriposi ghat. The driver has also sustained critical injuries in the mishap. All the injured have reportedly been admitted to Bangiriposi hospital.

The bus was reportedly en route to Murshidabad (West Bengal) from Rourkela (Odisha). Till the last report came in, police had reached the spot and carried out a probe into the mishap.

Earlier in January this year, an oil tanker and a container truck fell into a 20-feet gorge on the Bangiriposi ghat in Mayurbhanj district. Following the mishap, the oil tanker caught fire charring the driver to death.

Both the trucks were moving towards Baripada from Keonjhar through Bangiriposi ghat, when they both lost balance and fell off the ghat. While the oil tanker caught fire first, it soon engulfed the container truck too.

It is worth mentioning that the 17- km long stretch near Dwarasuni in Bangiriposi ghat on the NH-49 in Mayurbhanj district, connecting Mumbai with Kolkata, has the ill-reputation of being a death trap with the narrow stretch of highway being bloodied in mishaps that occur almost every other day.
