Robbers posing as police loot Rs 2.40 lakh in Odisha
As many as seven miscreants allegedly looted Rs 2.40 lakh rupees from a person’s house by impersonating them as police. The incident was reported from Ruben village under Mohan Giri police station in the border area of Kalahandi and Kandhamal district on Monday.
Three of the seven fake police personnel were reportedly overpowered by local people and they were eventually handed over to the police. Four others managed to escape and they are still on the run.
As per reports, as many as seven looters dressed in police uniforms entered the home of Reepa Majhi. They threatened the residents, claiming they needed to search the house for hiding of a youth and woman. During this staged search, they managed to steal Rs 2,40,000 from a box and attempted to flee.
After coming to know about the incident, local people chased the robbers and managed to overpower three of them along with their bolero. Four others managed to escape and they are still at large.
Following the development, the villagers handed over the three looters to Mohan Giri police.
As per police sources, the looters belong to Kandhamal district. Their interrogation is currently underway as part of the investigation.
“The robbers impersonating police officers searched my house by saying that a youth and a lady had been hidden in my house. They intimidated me and decamped by looting Rs 2.40 lakh from a box at my house. Subsequently, some of our villagers chased the looters and managed to capture three of them,” said victim Reepa Majhi.
