The Anganwadi centres across the state will receive less number of eggs than they are receiving now as the price of eggs has increased.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who is also the Minister of Women and Child Development, on Saturday, admitted it, saying the issue will feature in the national conclave of Women and Child Development Ministers scheduled to be held in Rajasthan on January 12.

While speaking to media persons, the Deputy Chief Minister said the problem will be tabled at the upcoming Central Government meeting. She assured that the state government will engage constructively in discussions aimed at finding a resolution.

“I admit that the price of egg has increased. The centre finalises the rate. We have raised the issue with the concerned department in the centre. On January 12, a national conclave of Women and Child Development Ministers is scheduled to be held in Rajasthan. The (egg) issue will be discussed there. We are doing the conclave so that our children get a good take-home ration (THR). In the conclave, it will also be discussed to take states as partners in the distribution of ‘chhatua’ and other food items. I will share the final model with you after returning from the conclave,” she stated.

Last week, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik had cautioned that strict action will be taken against the hoarding and black marketing of eggs in Odisha.

The Minister had attributed the shortage of eggs in the state to the supply of large quantities of eggs to West Bengal as it stopped receiving eggs from Andhra Pradesh where bird flu broke out.
