Vigilance officials nabbed a revenue inspector (RI) on the charges of graft in Motu Tehsil of Malkangiri district on Wednesday.

As per reports, an encroachment case was registered at the tehsil office. A person linked to the case was supposed to appear before the tehsil only after a notification, which was to be issued by RI Suraj Chandra Bala. For issuing the notification, the RI demanded illegal gratification from the person, who later approached the Vigilance in this regard. As per a plan, the Vigilance laid a trap.

When the RI was receiving Rs 15,000 as bribe from the complainant, the Vigilance officials caught the RI red-handed. They also seized the chemical-laced notes from the RI.

The Vigilance officials also conducted simultaneous raids at two places linked to the RI.  The raids were underway till the time of filing of the report.

Meanwhile, Vigilance has started further investigation against the RI, sources said.
