Odia girl Sonali Sahoo will lead the NCC girls’ contingent in the Republic Day parade to be held at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on Thursday.

According to sources, Sonali will command the girls’ contingent of 148 NCC cadets from across the country. Her team also includes two girls from Odisha. Sonali along with her team has been rehearsing for the final parade from January 5 although the full dress rehearsal was held on Tuesday.

Hailing from Kalahandi, it was not a rosy walk for Sonali to get selected as the commander of the contingent. She had to go through stiff competition to prove herself and get selected as NCC commander. OTV gets candid with Sonali and other two Odia girls who are part of her team ahead of Republic Day.

Sharing her excitement, Sonali said “For the last 23 days we have been practicing for this big event. It’s like a dream come true for me. We are going to get fruit of our hard labour tomorrow. So, we are really excited. At the same time, it’s a matter of pride for me to lead the NCC girls’ parade as a commanding officer. We are all prepared for tomorrow. We are equally excited for the D-Day.”

Sonali reached New Delhi on January 1 and started training for this big event.

About her training, she said, “We used to practice for six-seven hours daily. It could not have been possible without the support of our mentors. Selection procedure for NCC was started in June. Our training session had also begun in the same month. I had to face stiff training session for which I reached this place and will lead a team of 148 members at the 74th Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26 this year.”

Another Odia girl said, “I am very happy because my long cherished dream is going to be fulfilled.”

Another Odia NCC participant said, “We used to watch Republic Day parade on television. I had always wished to take part in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi and my dream came true. We are very excited for tomorrow.”
