Veteran journalist Ratikant Mohanty passed away, leaving behind an indelible mark on Odisha’s media and political landscape. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, at the age of 70. 

As per initial reports, Mohanty had been battling kidney-related health issues for the past few years, undergoing treatment for the same. His death has left the journalism community and his colleagues in deep sorrow.

Throughout his illustrious career, Ratikant Mohanty contributed extensively to some of the most prominent media houses in India. He worked with esteemed organizations such as The Asian Age, Dinlipi, Swaraajya, and Hindustan Samachar. 

For nearly four decades, he reported on governance, politics, and social issues, covering a wide array of stories that shaped Odisha's social and political discourse. His exceptional contributions to Odisha's journalism were unmatched, and he was regarded as a stalwart in political and social reporting.

Ratikant’s remarkable legacy was characterized by his commitment to impartial journalism, his unwavering adherence to professional ethics, and his dedication to his craft. His work was a beacon of truth, transparency, and responsibility in a time when media integrity often faced challenges. He was not only known for his sharp political acumen but also for his ability to bring forward the voices of the common man, making his work relatable and widely respected.

Ratikant Mohanty is survived by his wife, Sipra Mohanty, and two daughters, Puja and Bandana.

Condolences Pour In

His passing has been deeply mourned by political figures, including Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, who expressed his heartfelt condolences over the loss of the veteran journalist. 

Majhi highlighted Mohanty’s commitment to unbiased journalism, independence, and duty, noting that his legacy would remain an inspiration to future generations of journalists.

Similarly, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice President and Kendrapara MP, Baijayant Panda, also expressed deep grief over the loss of the veteran journalist.

In a post on social media, Panda shared his sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul’s peace. He acknowledged Ratikant’s exceptional contributions to Odisha’s media landscape and extended condolences to the grieving family.

Ratikant Mohanty’s death marks the end of an era in Odisha’s journalism, but his legacy and the impact of his work will continue to inspire journalists and media professionals for years to come. His contributions to social and political reporting will remain a significant part of Odisha’s media history.
