Ravenshaw University ragging case: Suspension of 10 students lifted

The Ravenshaw University administration has revoked the suspension of 10 students allegedly involved in a recent ragging incident.

In an official notice issued on Tuesday, the Chief Warden announced the withdrawal of disciplinary action taken against the students.

According to earlier reports, the incident occurred late Saturday night at the East Hostel, where ten third-year undergraduate boarders were accused of verbally abusing and ragging first-year UG students. As per the complaint, new boarders at the East Hostel were allegedly subjected to verbal abuse by senior students.

Following a preliminary investigation into the incident, the university authorities had directed the accused students to vacate the hostel premises by Sunday evening for creating disorder. Based on the Anti-Ragging Committee’s recommendation, ten senior students were suspended from the hostel.

However, the suspended students protested the decision by staging a sit-in, claiming that no proper evidence was presented and that the action was unjustified. Interestingly, even the alleged victims later stated before the media that no such ragging had taken place. The students claimed that they were pressured to file complaints, triggering the suspension of ten seniors. The development brought a new twist to the controversy.

The incident drew reactions from the university officials and escalated tensions on campus. Faced with mounting confusion and a lack of conclusive proof, the university authorities have now decided to retract the suspension order.
