Students of Ravenshaw University, Cuttack on Thursday staged a dharna protesting the last minute cancellation of the Ravenshaw Film Festival scheduled to be held at the varsity.

According to sources, a three-day film festival was scheduled to be kicked off at the university campus on Thursday. However, the university authorities called off the event at the last moment.

As per reports, the protesting students have also demanded the university authorities to clarify on what grounds the event was cancelled.

On the first day of the film festival, renowned film director Satyajit Ray’s masterpiece, ‘Pather Panchali’ was scheduled to be showcased.

“The film festival was scheduled to be held from March 2 to 4. The administrative department had given its consent to organise the programme under cultural council. Satyajit Ray’s ‘Pather Panchali’ was scheduled be to be displayed at 11 AM. But, at 10 AM we were asked to vacate the venue without any notice,” alleged Subha Nayak, a student of Ravenshaw University.

However, no comments have been received from the university officials in this regard.

Earlier on 27 February 2023, the university had also published a notice regarding the film festival.

“The Ravenshaw University, under the aegis of the Cultural Council is organising Ravenshaw Film Festival 2023 from 02.03.2023 to 04.03.2023 from 11 AM to 8 PM at Main Auditorium, Ravenshaw Convention Centre. Parallel sessions with Directors, Film Scholars, Resource persons will be held at Annex —Ill. An Exhibition on Satyajit Ray will also be featured. Students are encouraged to participate in large numbers,” the notice read.
