‘Ratha Katha Anukula’ ritual performed in Puri amid Saraswati Puja celebrations

The 'Ratha Katha Anukula' ritual began at Puri’s Jagannath Temple, marking the start of Rath Yatra preparations. Simultaneously, Odisha celebrated Magha Shukla Panchami and Saraswati Puja, honoring Goddess Saraswati with vibrant festivities across the State.

The unique ritual of ‘Ratha Katha Anukula’ took place at Lord Jagannath temple in Puri on Sunday, involving the ceremonial worship of robust timber (Dhaura Katha), signifying the beginning of traditional chariot construction for the upcoming Rath Yatra.

Notably, 101 pieces of timber, including Ashan and Dhaura wood, have been transported to Puri pilgrimage town from the forests of Nayagarh and Dasapalla in three trucks, carrying the legacy of craftsmanship.

Meanwhile, the sacred rituals for Ghosa Jatra have commenced in Puri, where preparations for the chariot construction ceremony are underway.

Today, Odisha celebrated Magha Shukla Panchami, a day dedicated to honouring Goddess Saraswati. This occasion is marked by vibrant festivities across the State, with educational institutions playing a pivotal role in paying tribute to the goddess of learning.

Saraswati Puja was celebrated at various educational institutions, offices and homes across Odisha on Sunday.

Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi greeted the people of the State on the occasion of Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja.

May Goddess Saraswati fill everyone’s lives with knowledge, happiness, peace and prosperity, the Governor prayed.

“May the lives of students be illuminated with the light of knowledge with the blessings of Maa Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge. May everyone’s life be filled with happiness, peace and prosperity,” the CM said on X.
