Raksha Bandhan: A tale of sibling bond beyond blood
Raksha Bandhan symbolizes love and affection between siblings. However, there are relationships that defy the boundaries of blood relations. In such a tale, a woman found a brother in an absolute stranger, who helped her in the fight to save her husband’s life.
Prabhu Prakash Nayak and his wife Chandrama Nayak hail from the Indiranagar Pada area in the Bolangir district.
Prabhu was suffering from kidney ailments for over eight years and was in urgent need of transplantation. Though Prabhu’s mother was a suitable donor, money emerged as an obstacle for the surgery.
After Odisha’s popular news channel OTV aired a report about Prabhu’s struggle, people across the State extended their helping hand for the surgery that cost around Rs 20 lakh.
“Many people came forward for our help. I am grateful to all of them. But, I am indebted to Pramod Behera from Bhubaneswar who stood beside me treating me as his sister and helping me during the dark hours. After watching the news, he came to the hospital despite his ailments and assured all support for the treatment. My husband got a new lease of life only for him,” Chandrama said.
“On Rakhi Purnima I have sent him Rakhi and I wish every woman should get a brother like him,” she added.
Thanking OTV, Prabhu said, “After watching my plight on OTV, he (Pramod) immediately came to the hospital for my help. He took care of all the expenses at the hospital. He is nothing less messiah for me,” Prabhu said.
