Southwest monsoon has become active in Odisha and a cyclonic circulation is likely to be formed over Bay of Bengal on Wednesday. 

Intensity of rain may increase in several parts of the State under its impact from Wednesday, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar has issued ‘Yellow Warning’ for heavy rainfall activities in several districts of the State. 

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at several parts of the State from June 26 to June 30. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at the coastal, south and interior parts of northern Odisha.

Monsoon has already covered almost all parts of the State. While as many as six districts have witnessed normal rainfall, 24 districts have experienced less than normal rainfall so far.

“Several parts of Odisha will experience heavy rainfall from June 26 to 28. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in some parts of the State during the period,” said Manorama Mohanty, Director of Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
