As per reports, the Jamkunda sluice gate at Jaleswar in Balasore district collapsed following intense rainfall. As a result, road communication along the Baliapala-Jamkunda road has been snapped. Vehicle movement along the road has been halted as the road has been submerged with knee-deep water.

Meanwhile, the water level in Subarnarekha river is rising due to torrential rain. While the danger level near Rajghat under Jaleswar block is 10.36 meter, the water level has almost reached the mark. If the water level rises further, a flood is expected in the river.

Many villages under Baliapala, Jaleswar and Bhograi blocks will be waterlogged and crops in several acres will be damaged in case of flood.

Many areas under Baliapala block have been submerged due to heavy rain.

“The administration is fully ready to deal with any kind of flood-like situation. People should not panic. We have kept a strong vigil on the flood situation,” said Baliapala Tehsildar Janak Kumar Nayak.

Meanwhile, Jalaka river is flowing above the danger level mark near Mathani under the Basta block.

Baitarani river is also in spate due to heavy rain in the upper catchment area. The river is flowing above the danger level mark near Akhuapada. However, it is a matter of relief that rain has stopped in the upper catchment area.
