Rain fury in Odisha’s Koraput
Incessant rain in the last few days has brought life in many parts of Koraput district to a grinding halt. As per reports, Kolab river is in spate due to the torrential rain and water is flowing over the bridge near Digapur area. As a result, road communication from Kundura to Ghumar has been snapped.
Low-lying areas in the region have been inundated and water has entered many houses in the area causing severe inconvenience to the residents.
Kurlu and Biri rivers in Kundura block are also reportedly in spate, posing a threat of flooding in nearby areas. Due to the heavy rain, several places in Kundura and Kotpad blocks have been waterlogged as excess rainwater has accumulated on roads. Several houses were also damaged in the process.
Moreover, several acres of farmlands have been submerged in Baipariguda area and as a result, paddy and vegetable cultivation has been damaged. Baipariguda block has experienced the highest amount of 170mm of rain in the district, followed by Kundura and Jeypore blocks.
With IMD forecasting more rain in the coming days, things might worsen further. The district administration has warned the people to remain and the farmers have been advised not to go to their farmlands for the next few days.
