Realising a long-cherished dream of the people of Nilagiri, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will flag off a MEMU train from Nilagiri to Balasore today. The train will run up and down from Nilagiri to Balasore thrice a day.

The passenger train is scheduled to station at the newly constructed railway station at Gopinathpur. In the coming days, the train services from Nilagiri will be expanded to Bhubaneswar and Kolkata, according to informed sources.

The railway line was opened in 1909 before the Independence of India and was being used for granite transportation from Nilagiri to Kolkata.

Later, the line became defunct after being unused for years. It was in 2022 that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected the railway line and laid the foundation stone for making the line fit for running passenger trains.

Locals expressed their happiness and were super excited about their train journey. The station building also has all the amenities required for passengers. There is a booking counter at the station. The station looks beautiful with hills, farmlands, and mountains in its background.

Vaishnaw is also scheduled to inaugurate a new passenger reservation system (PRS) at Betnoti railway station in Mayurbhanj district. He will also lay the foundation stone of other railway projects at Betnoti.
