A second-year engineering student was allegedly ragged and beaten up by his seniors at the prestigious Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla.

The incident reportedly occurred late Wednesday night. The matter came to the fore after the victim called the local police and narrated his ordeal.

Today morning, a police team visited the University and took the student to the police station where he produced a written complaint.

According to the complainant, a group of his seniors first ragged him then they threatened and brutally thrashed him.

“I am a student of VSSUT second year in Electronics and Telecommunication. Today (November 23) at night around 2 am, I was harassed by my seniors. I had gone downstairs to the general store inside our hostel premises which was closed. While I was returning, around 15-17 seniors stopped me and started beating me. They also strangled my hoodie around my neck and warned me not to complain any one otherwise they will boycott me and throw me out of my class and college,” said the victim.

When contacted, the University Vice Chancellor said that necessary action will be taken against the accused seniors as per the law if they are found guilty.

Recently, a video of a couple of student being ragged and harassed at government run Binayak Acharya College at Berhampur went viral on social media.

Later, the college authorities rusticated 12 students for their alleged involvement in ragging of a boy and a girl student.
