‘Ragging’ at Keonjhar Govt Engineering College: 5 students arrested, dismissed from college for 1 year

The victim reportedly sustained severe injuries in the assault. Subsequently, the hostel warden rushed to his rescue and he was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital. 

The victim was admitted to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital

As many as five students were arrested by Keonjhar Town Police on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the ragging of a second-year student of Government Engineering College in Keonjhar.

Moreover, the arrested students were also dismissed from the college for one year by the authorities of the educational institution.

As per the allegation of the victim, he was physically tortured by five seniors in the hostel of the college.

As per sources, five seniors barged into the victim’s hostel room at around 02:30 AM and allegedly started thrashing him with sticks and rods before he could understand anything.  

The victim reportedly sustained severe injuries in the assault. Subsequently, the hostel warden rushed to his rescue and he was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital. 

As per sources, the reason behind the assault could be the grudge against the victim as he had brought the matter of earlier attempts made by the senior students to rag the juniors to light.

Following the incident, the family members of the victim student registered a complaint with the police. They also held discussions about the matter with the college authorities.
