Rice dumped in canal in Puri

Quintals of rice were dumped in the Nimapara-Gop branch canal on Wednesday. It is suspected that the rice could be from the stock collected through Arpan Raths for the Srimandir Parikrama project.

As per reports, quintals of rice loaded in a mini truck were found being dumped by some labourers in the canal near Bayakuda Bridge at Gop block square.

Though the labourers didn’t tell anything about the rice, local residents are suspecting that the rice could be the Arpan rice that was infested by pests.

As per sources, a mini truck bearing registration number OR-O2-AB-5899 was loaded with rice in Puri on August 18. Meanwhile, a mini truck with the same registration number reportedly dumped the rice in the canal. The development indicates that Arpan rice may have been dumped in the canal.

Local residents have shot videos of the incident. They have demanded that a proper investigation into the incident should be carried out by the Supply Department.

Meanwhile, questions are being raised that if the rice is actually from the Srimandir, then why it is being dumped when it was collected from each house in the State through Arpan Raths for Srimandir Parikrama project during the tenure of the previous government.
