Srimandir will be illuminated again as the focus lights uninstalled three days ago have been reinstalled, only after servitors and devotees expressed resentment over keeping the temple in darkness.

For the illumination of Srimandir, a Delhi-based organisation named Third Wave installed the focus lights. Three days ago, all of a sudden, the abode of the Holy Trinity plunged into darkness. The organisation engaged for the illumination had reportedly uninstalled the lights.

Resentment erupted among devotees and servitors, prompting Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena to direct the Puri district Collector to find out a permanent solution, investigate into the incident and take action against whosoever is found guilty.

Puri district Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain said an investigation has been initiated to find out the persons involved.

Today, Chief Secretary Jena along with SJTA Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee visited the site and took stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Singhadwar Police has detained four persons in connection with the removal of lights.
“The lights were installed during the Parikrama Prakalpa. They were being removed as per the tender period. The contractor of the company had asked us to remove the lights,” said Santosh Senapati, a staff of Third Wave Event.

At the same time, the BJP alleged a conspiracy behind the removal of lights from Srimandir.

“The way the lights were uninstalled from around Srimandir is a matter of concern. The government in charge is required to initiate an investigation and take stern action against those who are responsible. It is a matter of shame that the organisation engaged by the past government uninstalled the lights before the swearing-in ceremony of the new government. It is nothing but a conspiracy. Stern action should be taken against the conspirators,” said Odisha BJP Vice President Biranchi Tripathy.
