Odisha Law Minister Jagannath Sarka on Thursday made his statement in the State Assembly in response to a question on the issue of opening the Srimandir Ratna Bhandar.

The Minister said that the condition of the Ratna Bhandar will be assessed after the laser scanning and it can be opened and repaired during the Rath Yatra.

He further said that the inner and outer parts of the Ratna Bhandar are conjoined with the Jagamohan of Srimandir. “The daily rituals and darshan by devotees in Srimandir will be affected if a team of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) enters the Ratna Bhandar for repair of the inner portion.

The issue was thoroughly discussed at the meeting of the Srimandir Management Committee (SMC) on August 4, 2023,” the Law Minister informed the Assembly.

He also stated that the SMC had favoured a decision for the laser scanning of the outer part of the Ratna Bhandar and assessment of the inner part.

Meanwhile, the laser scanning has been completed and the repair can be carried out after assessing the inner condition of the Ratna Bhandar during the Rath Yatra, he added.
