The principal and some former student leaders of Samanta Chandra Sekhar Autonomous College in Puri have alleged before the District Collector and the SP that some portion of the educational institution’s land near the Central School has been encroached upon.

As per the allegations, some staff quarters in the second campus of the college have been demolished. Moreover, some portion of the 23-acre college land has been illegally encroached upon with iron wire fencing around it.

“I have written letters in this regard to Puri Collector, SP, Tehsildar and Talabania police station. I have also informed about the development to the government.  No demarcation of the land has been done so far. So, on which basis they have done the fencing?” asked SCS college principal Prof Mihir Mishra.

“A miscreant has demolished the staff quarter and encroached some portion of the college land illegally. We demand stern action against him,” said former secretary of the college Sukant Kumar Pradhan.

“If an inch of the college will be encroached upon, former students and residents of the area will stage massive protests in the near future,” said former students’ leader Rajesh Mishra.

As per reports, some mutts in Puri have donated land to the college. However, one Narayan Das from Kumbharapada area is claiming that the record of 3 acres and 20 decimal lands is in his name. As per the lawyer of Das, the land belongs to the latter as per the order of the Court of the Commissioner Consolidation, Bhubaneswar.

The land is still in the care of Narayan Das and hence it belongs to him,” said Das’ lawyer Jayakrushna Nanda.

Meanwhile, responding to the allegations, Puri Collector Bijay Kumar Das said that action will be taken as per the provision in law following an inquiry into the incident.

“I have asked the Tehsildar to conduct an inquiry into the matter. Proper action will be taken as per the provision in the law following the completion of the inquiry,” said Das.
