Three chariots parked at Saradhabali in Puri
Countless devotees of Lord Jagannath are ecstatic to see the sibling deities riding chariots and reaching their aunt’s house – Gundicha Temple as part of their annual nine-day sojourn in Puri pilgrimage town. The deities will be taken to ‘Adapa Mandapa’ of Gundicha Temple on Sunday (June 29) by the servitors in a special ritual called ‘Pahandi Bije’.
As part of the tradition, ‘Charamalas’ of the three chariots will be fixed after the completion of ‘Sandhya Dhupa’ and then the Holy Trinity, along with Lord Sudarshan, will be carried to their ‘Janmabedi’ (birthplace) in ‘Goti Pahandi’ by Srimandir servitors. Lord Madana Mohan and Ramakrushna will also be ushered into the ‘Adapa Mandapa’.
‘Adapa Mandap’ is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Jagannath and His Siblings – Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra. Moreover, ‘Adapa Mandapa Bije’ ritual is also known as Gundicha Yatra.
During this week-long period, all the rituals of Srimandir are observed in the Gundicha Temple. During the stay of the Lords in Gundicha Temple, devotees can relish ‘Adapa Abhada’, the special Mahaprasad prepared in the temple.
As per the Hindu beliefs, those who can get a glimpse of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra on the ‘Adapa Mandapa’, they would get rid of all sins committed in hundred births.
Special emphasis has been given by the temple administration for smooth Darshan of the deities in Gundicha Temple. ‘Garbha Gruha’ of the temple has been air-conditioned.
Worth mentioning, in the aftermath of tragic stampede incident near Gundicha Temple in the wee hours of Sunday, which reportedly claimed the lives of three devotees and left several others injured, Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb has expressed sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
Describing the fatal incident as “extremely unfortunate and heart-wrenching,” the Gajapati Maharaja, who holds a revered position as the ceremonial head of Jagannath Temple rituals, said that he was deeply shocked to learn about the loss of lives.
