Chariots of Holy Trinity at Gundicha Temple
Countless devotees of Lord Jagannath are ecstatic to see the Holy Trinity riding the chariots and reaching their aunt’s house - Gundicha temple on Monday as part of their annual nine-day sojourn in Puri. The deities will be taken to ‘Adapa Mandap’ of Gundicha temple by the servitors today in a special ritual called ‘Pahandi Bije’.
As part of the tradition, the ‘Charamalas’ of the chariots will be fixed after the completion of ‘Sandhya Dhupa’ and then the Holy Trinity along with Lord Sudarshana will be carried to the ‘Janmabedi’ in ‘Goti Pahandi’ by the servitors of Srimandir. Lord Madana Mohan and Ramakrushna will also be ushered into the ‘Adapa Mandap’.
‘Adapa Mandap’ is considered the birthplace of Lord Jagannath and His Siblings. Moreover, ‘Adapa Mandap Bije’ ritual is also known as Gundicha Yatra. During this week-long period, all the rituals of Srimandir are observed in the Gundicha temple. And, during this period, devotees can relish ‘Adapa Abhada’, the special prasad prepared in the temple.
As per the Hindu beliefs, those who can get a glimpse of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra on the ‘Adapa Mandapa’, they would get rid of all sins committed in hundred births.
Special emphasis has been given by the temple administration for the smooth darshan of the deities in Gundicha temple. The ‘Garbha Gruha’ of the temple has been air-conditioned.
Meanwhile, members of Srimandir Technical Committee and officials of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will take stock of Srimandir ‘Garbhagruha’ today to carry out the necessary repair work like every year.
Executive President of Srimandir Technical Committee Dr NC Pal informed that a target has been set to complete the repair work of the ‘Garbha Gruha before ‘Adharapana’ rituals.
“We have carried out many repair works of Gundicha temple and Srimandir earlier. A joint team will carry out the inspection of ‘Garbha Gruha’ during the ongoing Rath Yatra and undertake the necessary minor and major repair works during this time. We will finish the work before ‘Adharapana’. Earlier we had done laser scanning of Ratna Bhandar and the government is aware of the damage. All the necessary measures have been taken for the repair work. As per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) prepared by the supervising committee, repair work will be undertaken,” said Pal.
