The ongoing work for the grand Puri Parikrama Project will be completed by January 11, informed Odisha Chief Secretary PK Jena after reviewing the project in the pilgrim town on Friday. Jena visited the new parking lot at Samanga and also reviewed the ongoing work for the toilet and rest shelters during his tour today. The Puri Parikrama Project is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 17.

“The Puri Parikrama Project will be completed by January 11 and it will be handed over to the temple administration. By January 14, Police will take over the area for security-related drills and arrangements,” said Jena.

On resentment of locals over the closure of lanes for the air-conditioned sheds and ongoing construction work, Jena said a decision will be taken in this regard after discussions with the district administration and the OBCC.

Jagannath Prachar Rath will reach every panchayat from tomorrow. The process of collecting rice and betel nuts will also start and these will be used during the rituals on the inauguration day.

Police ADG (Law and Order), Sanjay Kumar said, “Adequate security cover will be in place in Puri for the Parikrama Project inauguration as a lot of VIPs will be present. Similarly, the focus will be on ensuring hassle-free darshan for devotees.”
