In a major development in the Balanga assault and burn case in Puri district, the statement of the victim minor girl, was officially recorded on Wednesday at AIIMS New Delhi. Conducted in the presence of a Magistrate, the process marks a significant step toward the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

According to sources, Puri Police have recorded the statement of the victim in the Balanga burn case at AIIMS, New Delhi. The recording process was conducted in the presence of a Magistrate, as per directions from the Safdarjung Court.

Investigating Officer and DSP Kalpana Kanhar personally documented the statement, which has reportedly provided several critical details relevant to the case.

Puri SP Pinak Mishra confirmed that action will be taken based on the victim’s statement, adding that the investigation has reached its final phase. He emphasised that all steps are being taken in line with legal protocols.

Due to ongoing medical treatment of the minor, authorities are proceeding with heightened caution. Special attention is being given to the girl’s health, and her family is being kept informed throughout the process.

“Recording of her (the burn victim) statement is underway. This much I can say now that the investigation has almost reached its final stage. In this process, lots of restrictions are being followed as her specialised treatment is underway. Hence, we are dealing with her in a very sensitive manner,” Puri SP Mishra expressed.

Importantly, the entire probe, including this fresh testimony recording, is being documented through video to maintain transparency.
This was the third time that the victim’s statement has been recorded.

Previously, on July 25, the minor victim from Balanga of Puri had given her statement at New Delhi’s AIIMS under the supervision of Odisha Crime Branch, probe team, and doctors of the health facility. Her statement was recorded in the presence of her family members.
