The Puri district administration declared a holiday for all schools owing to the heavy rainfall warning on Thursday. Puri District Collector announced that all schools will remain closed for the day after IMD warned of moderate to intense rainfall due to the change in weather conditions owing to the withdrawal of the monsoon.
Meanwhile, the weather department has issued an orange warning for the Puri district with moderate thunderstorms accompanied by squall winds reaching 30-40kmph. Lightning and intense rain will hit Puri and other districts within the next three hours, the IMD bulletin read.
Under its impact, there will be minor damage to loose/unsecured structures, water logging in low-lying areas, and minor damage to banana trees. Damage standing crops may be affected, it further read.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.
Meanwhile, a yellow warning for moderate rain/thundershower is most likely to affect some parts of districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda and Deogarh within the next three hours.
