The strike launched by Medical Banchao Kriyanusthan Committee (MBKC) demanding conversion of the old Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital building into a City Hospital entered 30th day on Friday.

On the 30th day, the agitating women cooked their food at the dharana site in front of the district Collector’s office as a mark of protest against the administration and the government turning a deaf ear to their demand.

According to a source, all the departments of the Kendrapara DHH except the Blood Bank and Gynaecology department were reportedly shifted to the new building at Samagudia on January 9. Local residents have since been demanding that the old building at Khadianga be converted into a City Hospital so that the local people wouldn’t get deprived of medical service.

The Medical Banchao Kriyanusthan Committee had observed a bandh on January 17 over this demand. Meanwhile, intellectuals and political leaders have joined the committee and intensified the agitation.

The agitating women said they would continue to stay and cook at the dharana site till their demand is met.

Notably, the present old DHH building is functioning as Urban Health Centre with OPD services being available from 8 am to 12 noon and 4 pm to 6 pm.
