The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jayanarayan Mishra on Tuesday targeted Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by posing several questions over his ongoing Mumbai visit. What is the priority for the Odisha Chief Minister? Is it the ‘sponsored award’ or Odisha Assembly, questioned Mishra while talking to reporters.

It is pertinent to mention here that CM Naveen Patnaik is currently in Mumbai and received the 'Best State for the Promotion of Sports' award at the Sportstar Aces 2023 yesterday.

“At a time when the crucial session of the Odisha Assembly is underway, the Chief Minister doesn’t have time to attend it but he is now in Mumbai to accept an award. CM is always keen to sponsor awards and accept sponsored awards,” alleged Mishra.

Though the award has been given to the CM for sports, Odisha is known to be a backward state in games. “Only two players from Odisha are in the national hockey team. There is no representation of in other games like cricket, football and others due to poor performance. The credit which Odisha government took for organising Hockey World Cup is of no use as the tickets were distributed among BJD workers and fans were deprived,” said Mishra while questioning whether all such gimmicks are only for an image makeover.

The LoP further alleged that the state government which is taking credit for the Sundargarh stadium has been constructed from the DMF fund. The fund could have been utilised for various developmental activities in the district.

The comments from the BJD or CMO could not be obtained over the allegations levelled by the LoP.

Meanwhile, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Pritiranjan Gharai today took a jibe at the Opposition by stating that the CM is meeting and interacting with the industrialists to bring investments to the state in various sectors like chemicals, IT and the plastic sector. Already the state has received an investment indent of Rs 10 lakh crore and the investment in the industries sector is only to create employment opportunities, Gharai said.
