Pistols, bullets seized during illegal arms deal in Bargarh

The Bargarh police on Sunday arrested Mohammad Akram, the prime accused in firearms supply in the western district of Odisha. A team from Bargarh police arrested Akram with the assistance of Bihar police.

A few days back, Bargarh police had busted a firearms deal and arrested five persons. At least five pistols and 34 rounds of ammunition were seized during the operation in October.

The apprehended guns supplier Mohammed Akram is being interrogated by law enforcement officials in Bargarh to uncover further details about the networks involved in the illicit firearm trade.

Authorities in Bargarh have intensified their efforts to tackle the illegal arms trade, a concern that poses significant risks to regional safety and security. The previous arrests have been pivotal in identifying the supply lines and operational methods of those involved.

“A case was registered with Town Police over illegal firearm deals. Cracking the case, a police team went to Bihar and arrested the mastermind of the illegal deal. Further probe is on and we will arrest all those who were involved in the deal,” informed Bargarh SP PS Meena. 

The arrests have drawn attention to the ongoing challenges in controlling illegal arms distribution networks across state borders in India. Officers involved in the investigation are driven by a commitment to dismantling these networks and ensuring community safety.
