The body of a woman was found hanging in her in-laws’ house at Mainshamunda village under Balasore’s Khaira block on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Sahu. She was eight months pregnant.

As per reports, Sasmita was married for eight years. However, it has been alleged that her husband Deepak Behera used to torture her.

Sources said both Sasmita and Deepak went to sleep on Thursday night in their room. But when Deepak woke up the next morning, he reportedly saw Sasmita hanging from the ceiling fan. He then called his father who reportedly brought Sasmita’s body down and informed the police.

However, Sasmita’s family did not believe in the narrative and accused Deepak and his family of killing her.

“We could not find any mark on her body suggesting a suicide. Both of them always quarrel with each other. Her husband is a drunkard. He does not go anywhere to work,” alleged Manjulata Sahu, the sister of the deceased.

“He used to beat her. Even her in-laws beat her. I suspect her husband has killed her by strangulating her in an inebriated state,” she alleged.

Though the police have launched a probe into the case, they have not made any comments in this connection till now.
