Post offices across Odisha to remain shut today for major software upgrade

Postal services in several districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, Khordha, Balasore, and parts of the Jeypore Circle, will remain closed today as the Department of Posts undertakes a major one-day shutdown to implement a significant software upgrade across its systems.

According to an official release from the Bhubaneswar Postal Division, the temporary suspension of operations is part of a scheduled software development plan.

All post offices under the division, including those in Khordha district, will be non-operational for the day. The closure is meant to facilitate the rollout of a new, improved software system aimed at addressing persistent issues that have affected both employees and customers, said the press release.

New, Independent Software To Be Deployed

According to sources, the postal department is undertaking a massive operation to deploy the Advanced Postal Technology 2.0 software across all its branches to streamline workflow.

"We have been using SAP software, but our personnel were facing some issues with it. It has also resulted in delays in dealing with recording public transactions. Now, we have developed new software called Advanced Postal Technology 2.0. It will be deployed to make work easier for our staff and improve the department's efficiency,” said Tapas Kumar Das, Superintendent of Post Offices, Balasore.

Das also added that following the installation of the new software, it will be available for use by postal employees starting Monday (4th August).

Service Upgrade in Response to User Disruptions

According to Das, over the years, users and postal staff have faced frequent downtimes, transaction delays, and data sync issues linked to the outdated software. The move to Version 2.0 is expected to improve efficiency, reduce customer wait times, and enhance the overall reliability of postal services.

Cooperation Sought from Public

The Department of Posts has appealed to all citizens to support the initiative and plan their postal activities accordingly. Officials have reassured the public that services will resume as normal from tomorrow, and the new system will offer a more user-friendly and robust experience.

Customers have been requested to cooperate and bear with the temporary inconvenience as the department carries out this important transition.
