Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai targeted the Odisha government on Saturday by saying there is no rule of law in the State.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival at Bhubaneswar airport, Rai said, “The law and order situation in Odisha is not good. People are living in constant fear. Whatever development has happened in the State in the last nine years is only because of the welfare schemes of the Centre.”

"Central government has schemes for all including women, youths, children, labourers, poor and farmers. People are getting benefited with these schemes. PM Modi is the architect of development. Because of him, development is reaching every nook and corner of India,” he said.

Asserting BJP’s win in 2024 elections, Rai said, “PM Modi is in the hearts of all the Indians. BJP will retain power in 2024 too.”

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) refuted Rai’s comments terming it as laughable.

Replying to Rai, Odisha Labour Minister Sarada Nayak said, “Rai’s comments are laughable. At a time when the Central government can’t even safeguard the Parliament, Rai’s comments on Odisha’s law and order situation is unfortunate. He should comment on the law and order situation of the BJP-ruled states first, before commenting anything on Odisha.”
