Police puppet in hands of mining mafia! Odisha top cops warn errant officials

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in Odisha has issued a stern warning to officers allegedly acting as puppets for the mining mafia. The ADGP's letter to all SPs and DSPs highlights unauthorized activities by some officers in mining and industrial zones, which fall outside their policing responsibilities.

Cops are willy-nilly always associated with offenders, at least for gathering information about hardcore criminals and their gangs. But certain officers allegedly acting as puppets in the hands of the mafia in mining and industrial zones have rubbed the top cops the wrong way.

This startling revelation made by none other than the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Odisha came at a time when the Bharatpur ‘custodial assault’ case recently did a huge disservice to the image of the police administration.

In his letter to all SPs and DSPs, the ADGP said that the actions of the above-mentioned officers are falling outside the scope of police responsibilities and the DGP has expressed his grave concern over the issue.

He warned such officers that the matters would be dealt with seriously.

“It has come to the notice of the SP HQs that certain field officers are involved in activities not related to policing duties, specifically in transportation and other unauthorized operations in mining and industrial zones. The Director General of Police has expressed grave concern over this issue and has emphasized that such actions fall outside the scope of police responsibilities,” the ADGP said in his letter.

“Any continued involvement or favouritism in these matters will be dealt with seriously. All field officers are hereby instructed to take cognizance of this directive and comply with it in strict accordance,” read the letter.
