Police Inspector injured in firing from 'service revolver,' suicide attempt suspected

In an unprecedented incident, a police inspector posted at the district police headquarters in Koraput was seriously injured after he reportedly shot himself with his own service revolver.

The injured inspector, Naren Biswal was attached to the Naxal Cell of the Police Headquarters.

As per reports, Biswal, who was married six months back, sustained two gunshot wounds - one in his head and another in his face.

Following the injury, he was immediately rushed to the Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, from where he was shifted to Vishakhapatnam after his situation deteriorated.

While the police department is tight-lipped about the incident, the reason behind his alleged attempt to end his own life is yet to be ascertained.
