The association of journalists in Jajpur staged protest on Tuesday demanding action against a Police IIC who misbehaved with an OTV journalist on duty.

A delegation of journalists led by the Association’s president Kailash Nayak met the Additional SP of Jajpur and submitted a memorandum demanding stern action against the IIC.

“This is a sensitive matter. It has been six days since the incident happened and the administration is yet to take any action against the erring IIC,” said Nayak.

“We have put forth our demand to take strict action against IIC, Ajay Kumar Jena. Otherwise the entire journalist fraternity in the State will be forced to take to the streets and intensify protest,” Nayak added.

Jena, the inspector-in-charge of Jajpur Police Station, had reportedly threatened OTV’s district correspondent Sanjeev Nayak when the latter was covering farmers’ agitation in front of the district collector's office on January 19.

Sanjeev Nayak was covering the protest of farmers in front of Jajpur collector’s office when the IIC arrived at the spot. He reportedly tried to interrupt the live coverage of the news and snatch the camera.

The ‘dadagiri’ of IIC Jena did not end there. His sheer disregard to law was evident when he showed highhandedness and lost his cool in front of the SP before whom Sanjeev Nayak had brought the issue later in the day.

The youth wing of the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan had also protested against the IIC's highhandedness a few days back.
