Paradip MLA Sambit Routray has once again landed in trouble as two separate police complaints have been lodged against him in connection with a viral video of him allegedly hurling abuses at a woman in public.

The two complaints were lodged by Kanchan Swain, the victim who has been identified as a former BJD woman leader of Bagoi panchayat under Kujang block in Jagatsinghpur district, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha.

In both complaints, action against the legislator has been demanded. At the same time, the BJP has warned that they would resort to an agitation if no action is taken against legislator Routray.

“We condemn the way he misbehaved with the woman. Not only Routray, but all the BJD leaders and workers also misbehave with women,” alleged BJP leader Sampad Swain.

The matter has also been taken up with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and a complaint against the MLA has been lodged.

However, MLA Routray, in a video message, denied the allegations and said neither did the woman misbehave with him nor did he misbehave with her.

“Some members of a specific political party have painted it otherwise and put her up to filing a complaint against me with their political intention,” he said.
